Who is Munacello?

Munacello (aka Monaciello, Munaciello) is a mischievous character from Neapolitan folklore. Long ago, he was the aqueduct cleaner in Naples, Italy. His name means "little monk"—called that because he wore a hooded robe, making him look like a monk.

Naples aqueducts deep beneath the city, which Munacello maintained

As the aqueduct cleaner, he had access to every apartment in the city through the water wells, allowing him to come and go without being seen. People in Naples used to leave offerings to keep Munacello happy. They knew he had the power to move through the wells and sneak into their homes, so they wanted to stay on his good side!

Helper or Troublemaker?

Munacello could be a helpful spirit or a troublemaker, depending on how you treated him. If he liked you, he might leave you little gifts or bring good luck. But if you upset him, you might find things going missing or small problems popping up in your home.
